Carrick Ladies Win Roscommon Cup

Carrick on Shannon Golf Club lady members had a great day in Boyle Golf Club on Saturday October 7th winning the Roscommon Cup for the very first time with Athlone second and Boyle coming third. The Roscommon Cup has been contested by members from Athlone, Boyle, Ballaghderreen, Castlerea, Carrick on Shannon, Roscommon and Strokestown golf clubs for over 10 years. 7 members from each club participated for the Cup with the top 5 scores contributing to an overall score.We would like to thank Boyle Golf Club for organising and hosting the competition this year. We would also like to thank Sinead Devine for her sponsorship of the trophies and prizes.

Seniors Results

The results of the outing to Athlone last Monday the 9th October are as follows:- The overall winning team members were – John O’Mahony; Johnny Martin; Paddy Duffy and Francie Foley with 88 points. Overall runner-up with 80 points was Tommy Mulvey; Leo Kavanagh; Damien Duignan and Seán Martin. Third place was won by Albert Hogg; Chris Lowe; P.J.Sharkey and Robbie Donaldson also with a score of 80 points. Last Thursday’s outing took place at Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club and it was hosted by our Captain Seán Martin. It was a most successful day with 37 members taking part in a singles stableford competition. Weather conditions were perfect followed by a scrumptious Buffet lunch. Prizes were presented by the Captain to the following:- Overall winner John O’Mahony with 39 points (B9); Runner-up Tommy Mulvey 39 points. In third place Chris Lowe with 37 points and fourth place was won by Robbie Donaldson also with 37 points. Category one was won by Frank Mc Grath with 36 points; category two winner was Seán McMonagle with 34 points and category three was won by Barry Donnellan with 34 points. The front nine was won by Michael Keville with 19 points and the back nine winner was Seamus Sheeran with 19 points. The Captain’s prize for nearest the pin on the eight hole was won by John O’Mahony and Frank McGrath won nearest the pin on the 13th. Golf as usual next Thursday.

Ladies Results

The Ladies held their first 9 and dine competition on w/e 08/10/2023 which was a great success. The results are as follows. 1st Phil McWeeney. 2nd Geraldine Farry. Gross Lisa Casey. 3rd Sinead Weir. Congrats to all the winners.

Open to play from White or yellow tee’s.Please ensure you check into office before play, read local rules, sign in for the competition & receive course & playing handicap. After your round, verify your score with a playing partner, sign your card, ask the verifier to sign the card.Use the computer or masterscoreboard.co.uk to enter your score and place the card in the box.Failure to do the above will result in disqualification.Please ensure pitch-marks are repaired on the greens and divots are replaced on the fairways. Prizes for this competition will be awarded based on handicap index categories.The handicap categories will be divided to have an equal number of entries for each category, depending on the handicap indexes of the entries for the competition.

The Late Aidan McNally.

The club would like to extend its deepest sympathy to the Family of our past Captain Aidan McNally Shannon Lodge Carrick-onShannon and Lisbrack Longford. Aidan was captain in 1990. He also served in various officer positions in the club for many years and was very popular with all the members. Predeceased by his wife Breda, brother Rene, sister Irene. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by his loving sons Conor (Dublin), Shane (Carrick-on-Shannon), daughters Paula (Scotland), Brenda (Carrick-on-Shannon), Joanne (Dublin), grandchildren Aisling, Niamh, Sinead, Zoe and Billy, great grandchildren Rian, Caoimhe, Oisin, Cillian and Aodhla, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, sister Patsy (Limerick), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and good friends.May he rest in peace.
